About Me
Who is João?

I've come to realize that, for me, it's never really about the place; it's about the people. I love to connect with people and doing it in the way that makes the most sense for me. Without even thinking about it. That's what makes some connections so special for me.
I'm happiest outdoors, and if you can't find me, there's a good chance I'm relaxing in a hammock somewhere. Capturing moments has always sparked something inside me even as a kid, and that feeling has only grown stronger over time.
Since I was little, I've been drawn to fixing things; taking broken toys apart and messing with small engines. I guess that curiosity naturally led me to this path of engineering and tech.
I thrive on challenges, especially when things get tough. I'd say my resilience is one of my strongest traits during difficult or stressful situations; Always staying grounded and helping those around me.
I'm passionate about communities, animals, and bringing high energy into whatever I do. Put that all together, and you'll start to get a picture of who I am.

Erasmus+ YE - Leadership and cooperation
This was my most recent experience (for now at least 😅👀). For the second time I went as a team-member meaning that more than the participant tasks I also had some more extras to do. I was very interested in the theme of this project, and even more about being able to work these on a hands to hands approach it's a completely different approach than just reading about it. This experience besides being amazing related to the connections and learnings made, also strengthened my sense of responsibility, highlighted the importance of communication within the team, and showed me the impact that good leadership can have on a diverse group.

Erasmus+ Training Course - Communication & guidance
I was invited to join the team that organized and facilitated the course. In addition to taking part in the activities, I was involved in the preparation, logistics, and delivery of sessions. The focus was on understanding how small actions or ways of communicating can completely change an interaction. It was a great challenge that helped me grow as a facilitator, gaining practical tools to guide groups and create more authentic connections.

Erasmus+ Training Course - Facilitation and non-formal education
This course was an experience focused on working with others, facilitating learning moments, and understanding how we develop ourselves in the process. We explored different learning styles, reflected on the role of the educator, and practiced ways of dealing with challenging group situations. It was an experience that helped me see education from a new perspective.

Erasmus+ YE - Unwind and wellbeing
This was the first type of experience I had with Erasmus and oh well. This was such an intense and amazing experience, that I can't even describe it in words. The love and connection with these people it's something that still amazes me for how it happened in such a short period of time. This project was focused on wellbeing, self-awareness, and the power of slowing down, and I feel like I came away with a new awareness of personal balance, empathy, and the importance of safe spaces for sharing.

Fullstack Developer
In March 2024 I embraced a new challenge and started working as a fullstack developer with Laravel. It was my first contact with PHP and this framework, and I was able to learn a lot in a short period of time. A great opportunity to learn new things, work better in a team, and also improve my time management skills. Still in the same company some time after that I also started working with React and React Native.

Project intership - Lab App
At the time it definitely was one of the most challenging projects I had to do. It was a fullstack application, with a lot of features, and I had to self manage it and make it happen. It was a great learning experience, and I was able to apply a lot of the knowledge I had acquired during my studies, and I felt really proud of the final result, knowing the impact it would have in a lot of people's work. I was given the freedom to choose the technologies and so I ended up choosing React for the front-end, and Node.js with Express for the back-end. The internship deadline was around summer time, where the meeting goals were all acomplished. But after that, I was invited to continue working on the project, and I was able to add some more features and improvements, to really perfect it. Currently it's not being managed by me, but its one of the projects I'm most proud of, and one that you can also see on my projects page.

Integrated Project in Partnership with a Company
An integrated project developed over two semesters, from initial prototypes to the final product. Successfully completed the development of two Android mobile applications and a web application (both front-end and back-end) for managing meetings and rooms within a business organization. It was a real team work. While I was mainly focused on the web application, I had to be involved in the entire process, and being able to make this project come to life was a really rewarding experience.

The marketing game - IPAM
Participation in the group marketing game organized by the Portuguese Institute of Marketing Management (IPAM), with the goal of making tactical, practical, and operational marketing decisions in the smartphone business sector. This was a very fun experience, since I participated with 2 friends. Between trying to study, making different strategies, and having fun, I enjoyed the time spent on this project.

Intership in computer store
Even though it was a short experience, I was able to learn a lot. It gave me a valuable and insightful point of view, being on the other side of the counter. In terms of computers, I learned a lot. From hardware to software, and even some customer service skills.

Associação Promoção Cultural Desportiva e Recreativa do Picoto
I don't remember the exact date, and I'm a part of this association and community since I was a child, but I started to be more active in 2017. Being part of all processes, and making such activities that gather the local people together, is something that I really enjoy. Yearly we're part of a big event that requires a lot of work and dedication, but the it's always worth it.
